Cheshire Youth Cricket Boys earn National and International honours
Cheshire Youth Cricket Boys will be represented on the national and international stage this weekend as the 2024 season builds towards an exciting climax.
On Sunday (September 15th) Cheshire Under 16s play Surrey in the final of the ECB County Cup. Cheshire have already claimed the scalps of several first-class counties, including Derbyshire (twice), Durham, Yorkshire and Northamptonshire on route to Sunday’s final, and will make the trip to Attenborough CC in Nottinghamshire with hopes of becoming national champions.
There was double cause for celebration for one key member of Cheshire’s U16 squad this week, with Freddie Ogilby (Chester Boughton Hall) earning a call-up to play for Ireland Under 19s in the Tri-series tournament in Loughborough, which starts today (Thursday 12th September). Freddie will be joined by Cheshire teammate and Lancashire Academy member Joe Moores (Macclesfield), who has been selected for England following some stellar performances at the recent Super 4s Regional Tournament. We wish both boys the best of luck.
Two recent graduates of the CYC pathway have also earned international honours this summer, with Charlie Barnard and Archie Vaughan both selected to represent England U19s. Charlie, a left arm orthodox bowler who plays club cricket for Newton and Hyde, has made several first team appearances for Lancashire this summer, while off-spinning all-rounder Archie took six wickets for Somerset against Surrey in only his second County Championship game.
