Bobby Spencer Memorial 2025 - Cheshire U13s v Lancashire U13s at Widnes CC
Cheshire U13s hosted neighbours Lancashire U13s in the second annual Bobby Spencer Memorial fixture at Widnes CC.
Lancashire batted first and made 264 in their 45 overs, with Hrithvic Prakash (116) and Will Delaney (71) forging a 160 run partnership. Yashmit Polisetty was the pick of the bowlers for Cheshire with 3 for 31.
Yashmit (pictured, photo courtesy Lee Prince) followed up his bowling performance with a fabulous 112 run century as Cheshire were bowled out for 175 in reply. Despite being on the losing side, Yashmit was chosen by the umpires as the player of the match.
It was another fitting tribute to former Cheshire Youth cricketer, Bobby, who died in June 2023 aged just 14 following a short, but courageous battle with brain cancer. Many of Bobby’s family and friends were in attendance at his home club to celebrate Bobby’s life and share memories of a talented and popular young man.
Cheshire U13s Manager Lee Prince paid tribute to Bobby in a short but emotional speech before the game and afterwards thanked all those who supported the fixture.
Lee said: “There was a good vibe in evidence all day, both respectful and relaxed as everyone spoke of Bobby and remembered him warmly. From a Cheshire perspective it was not the result we had hoped for, but both sets of players gave their all and more importantly the match was played in great spirit.”
